The Challenge

HSBC operated a fragmented digital analytics landscape—multiple markets, vendors, and platforms created inconsistent data, slow reporting, and security risks. With the deprecation of UA, a globally governed migration and tag standardization was mission-critical.

The Approach

The Grooms Agency implemented a centralized yet flexible GA4 migration strategy that respected regional nuances while unifying analytics across the business.

Global Audit & Data Layer Standardization
We began with a global analytics audit, then developed a unified data layer framework adaptable across HSBC’s digital properties, regardless of CMS or market.

Modular GTM Framework
Using Tealium and GTM, we developed reusable tag templates and event schemas that allowed each market to deploy consistent tracking logic without reinventing the wheel—minimizing errors and maintenance.

Server-Side Tagging for Privacy & Speed
HSBC’s global and regional sites transitioned to server-side Google Tag Manager, reducing third-party tracking exposure and improving page speed performance—while maintaining robust consent-based data collection.

Training & Enablement
We created custom training and documentation for global marketing and analytics teams, empowering local markets to self-manage tags within an approved governance model.

Results

HSBC now operates with a streamlined, consistent GA4 analytics foundation across 50+ markets—improving data reliability, reporting speed, and compliance readiness.
